Many bloggers think of themselves only as bloggers, not writers. They limit themselves as to what they can write just by placing only one — or even the wrong one — label on themselves. This talk is supposed to get bloggers and other written communicators to think of themselves as Writers.

Erik Deckers will discuss lessons he's learned over the years, such as how to start thinking of yourself as a writer, where to find inspiration, what we can learn from the world of novels, poetry, journalism, and even politics.

He will share stories from his own past, stories from others' past, and hopefully get the audience to stop thinking of themselves as mere bloggers and electronic scribblers, and start thinking of themselves as wordsmiths.

Erik Deckers is the co-owner and VP of Creative Services for Professional Blog Service in Indianapolis. He has been blogging since 1997, and has been a published writer for more than 24 years. He has been a newspaper humor columnist for 18 years, and is published in 10 newspapers around Indiana.

He co-authored No Bullshit Social Media: The All-Business, No-Hype Guide to Social Media Marketing (Pearson, 2011) and Branding Yourself: Using Social Media to Invent or Reinvent Yourself (Pearson, 2010).
